SOURCING
Module:
Fashion Supply Chain
Year:
2023
For this project, I was required to source for materials myself on websites by contacting real suppliers and compare the cost between vendors and think like a real fashion supplier. I was also required to analyze garment up close and document how the materials and price between brands of different positioning base their quality of merchandise.
PRODUCTION DRAWING
For the first step, I had to decide on what clothing I wanted to base my sourcing on. I chose a white t-shirt made of cotton and did the production drawings for the design. This way, I knew exactly what parts and materials I should source for.

SUPPLIERS
I made use of Alibaba and went to find 2 suppliers and contacted them. After finding out the details such as their lead time and MOQ, I used a table to compare my findings.

RESEARCH
To aid in my comparison, I also researched into the background of the brand to help with the comparison. The pricing and details matter but so do looking for credible and trustable vendors that I can work with.

CONCLUDING

After researching and comparison, I have to come to a conclusion and rationalize why I would pick that particular vendor. I used a table to justify my reasons.
I would choose Vendor A as my supplier. Even though B offers a cheaper price, lower MOQ, shipping and lead time, and a better quality of goods based on reviews. There’s not much difference between the ratings and based on reviews, Vendor A has very good customer satisfaction. My brand also priorities quality so finding the right supplier for it is important. To add on, even though Vendor B has a lower price per meter than A, it is fine for my brand which targets middle-income consumers. The price of my T-shirt would have a higher markup and higher price. Vendor A also seems more established and trustworthy as they have more years of experience and partnered with reputable brands.
